Open hours

Weekdays 9:00-20:00 (during lecture term)/9:00-17:00 (during vacation)
Weekends and holidays Closed
*No one can enter the library after closing.

Weekday 7:00-9:00 and 20:00-24:00 (during lecture term)/7:00-9:00 and 17:00-24:00 (during vacation)

Limited services

-Non-members of Tohoku University can use the library only when browsing the library's materials. (Weekdays 9:00-17:00)

Change of services during the spring holidays


The library's services will be changed as follows during the spring holidays.
*Please check the calendar.

Open hours:

6 Feb. (Mon.) - 7 Apr. (Fri.)
*The members of the Graduate School of Agricultural Science and the Faculty of Agriculture can use the library until 24:00 every day.

Due date:

If you borrow books between 30 Jan. (Mon.) and 31 Mar. (Fri.), the due date is 14 Apr. (Fri.).
*The loan period of serials, the shared stack room's books and other libraries' books is two weeks.
*For graduates and retirees, the last day of enrollment is the due of return.
*For those who plan to go on to higher education, take a leave of absence, or stay on, please come to the service desk for an extension of the period of use.

Winter holiday closure


Agricultural Library will be closed during the winter holiday.

The online reservation form of Learning Commons is released


Agricultural Library has changed the format for reservations of Learninng Commons to Google Forms.
Please note that you need to make a contact to the supplier section depending on the purpose of use.

Agricultural Library is holding an event, "Tell Us Your Oshi-Books."

Restoration work in the library has been completed


Agricultural Library has completed the restoration work on the loft area damaged by the earthquake on 16 March.
Loft seats are available from 11 October.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused over a long period of time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

*The ceiling of the loft area will be worked on with scaffolding.

*The schedule may change depending on the progress of restoration work.
*Restoration work of the lecture hall on the second floor will take until mid-October.

Impact

-Loud noises may be generated.
-The use of some areas and seats is restricted.
-Some of the bookshelves will not be available and books on them will be temporarily moved to other bookshelves.
 Please ask at the service desk if you cannot find books.

[For faculty members] Book recommendations for students


Please tell us books you recommend for students.
We would appreciate your cooperation.
Due: 30 September (Fri.)

Choosing

Please choose books you recommend for students.
-The books should not necessarily be related to the curriculum.
 *You can choose any of the following: specialized books, liberal arts books and reference books.
-Journals and yearbooks should be excluded from the recommendation list.
-If there are any books you are going to list in the next syllabus, please add them to the recommendation list.
 *The books listed in the current syllabus have already been purchased except they are out of print.
-Some of recommended books might not be purchased considering the library's budget.

Submitting

Please submit by either way of the followings.
1. Email / Document box
-Fill in the recommendation list(PDF / Excel, only in campus).
-Send the list by email or put it into the library's document box

2. MyLibrary
-Log in to MyLibrary.
-Click "Purchase Request (for Students)" on the bottom of the screen.
-Select "No" for the field of "Priority Lending."
-Select "Agricultural Lib" for the field of "Location."
-Fill in the all fields and send it.
3. Google Forms
-Click here to access Google Forms.
-Fill in the form and send it.

*2 and 3 are available throughout the year for both of faculty members and students.
 Please use them when you find any books to recommend after the due date.

Use of the library when the service desk is closed

Members of Graduate School of Agricultural Science and Faculty of Agriculture can use the library when the service desk is closed (7:00-24:00).
However, please note that the library is not availble for anyone during the following dates and times due to planned poweroutages.
Friday 26 August, 17:00 - Monday 29 August, 7:00

Due date

If you borrow books between Wednesday 27 July and Monday 26 September, the due date is Tuesday 11 October.
*The loan period of serials, the shared stack room's books and other libraries' books is two weeks.
*If you are leaving the university before Tuesday 11 October, please return books before then.

E-book trial is available from 1st July to 31st Aug.


E-book trial is available from 1 July (Fri.) to 31 Aug. (Wed.).
You can try reading about 40,000 Japanese books and 1,300,000 foreign books for 5 minutes each.
Please refer to the news from the library for details.

The journal area will reopen from 10th June and nighttime/holiday use will be resumed from 13th June


We have finally finished the restoration work of the journal area and will resume the suspended service as follows.

Reopening of the journal area from 10th June

-For safety reasons, we have decided not to place materials on the top of the bookshelves.
-Some of the foreign journals which are available online have been moved to the stack room.
-The materials in the stack room will be brought by library staff when requested. Please ask at the counter (weekdays 9:00-17:00)
-Loft seats are still not available.

How to use
-Use the self-checkout machines to check out the library’s books.
-Use the book drop to return the library’s books.
-The lights automatically turn off at midnight.
-The air conditioning system is not available.
Notice
-Library staff will not be available during the time above.
-When an earthquake occurs, do not panic and keep your distance from bookshelves.
-Take preventive measure against COVID-19: wear a face covering, disinfect your hands and avoid the “Three Cs” (closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings).
-Before leaving the library, turn off electronic devices and lock windows. If there is no one left but you, turn the lights off.
-Do not remove the library’s equipment.
-Do not eat or drink in the prohibited area.
-Dangerous acts are strictly prohibited.
-Be quiet so as not to disturb other users.
-This use of the library may be suspended when the library’s rules are broken or the situation of COVID-19 gets worse.

Booklog (virtual bookshelf) is now available


Agricultural Library started a virtual bookshelf service, Booklog.
This bookshelf holds newly added ebooks and books displayed in the exhibition area.
*Please note that Booklog is an external website.

How to use

-Go to Agricultural Library's bookshelf.
-To narrow down the books, click on "タグ" in the menu bar.
-To get access to ebooks, click on the book-shaped icons.

The secound floor will partially reopen from 20th Apr. and the open hours will be changed from 25th Apr.


Agricultural Library has been resuming services according to the progress of post-earthquake restoration work.
We are pleased to announce that the restoration work in the books area on the second floor has been completed and services will resume as follows.
Please note that some services will remain unavailable.

From 20th Apr.

The book area and the reference book area on the second floor will reopen.
*The journal area and the loft will remain unavailable.

From 25th Apr.

The closing time will be changed from 17:00 to 20:00.
*No one can enter the library after closing.
 

Agricultural Library will reopen from 4th Apr. (the first floor only)


Agricultural Library was severely damaged by the earthquake that occurred on 16th Mar.
e.g.) Most of the books fell to the floor.
Restoration work is underway.
The library's services will be partially resumed from 4th Apr. as follows.
