The Tohoku University Library was designated as a (United Nations Depository Library) in July 1965. It was the first designation in the Tohoku region.

The Tohoku University Library was designated as a European Document Centre (EDC) in September 1983. The Library is now one of the EUi (European Info) centers. We are the only library in the Tohoku region to be designated with that status.

Laws and ordinances
- Primary law・壹Main sources are the Treaties establishing the European Union. It is the equivalent of the Constitution in Japan.
- Secondary law・壹Regulations and directives that are applied to EU member states.
- Official Journal of the Euorpean Union(OJ)

- L series (legislation): Contains legally binding regulations, directives, and decisions among the laws adopted.
- C series (information and notices): Contains information other than legislation.
- S series(Supplement)・・Contains information on public procurement and tendering.
窶サThe University Library does not have the S series. The latest information on tendering is available on the Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) page instead.
- Directory of Community legislation in force・・Contains EU related legislation as well as agreements between EU and non-EU countries.

- COM Documents(European Commission documents)・・
Primarily contains legislation submitted by the European Commission to the European Council. It also contains documents related to EU policies toward Japan and other white papers.
